A History of Caring
Amongst the Kentucky wildflowers and Appalachian peaks to where the rolling hills turn blue – there the Red River rises into the Cumberland Plateau. You make your way to a little place in Wolfe County, east of Richmond, amongst faraway hills and sandstone arches, a place called Campton, Kentucky. This is where we, Mike and Phil Maddox, began Australian Dream in 1997. But we were here long before that.

A brand built from a country doctor’s house and a heritage of helping
In 1953, our father Dr. Paul Maddox, serving as the only doctor in impoverished Wolfe County, began treating his neighbors, the permanently poor, for everyday aches and pains, pregnancies, and life ending diseases. A half of a century later, working nearly 24/7, seeing more than 100 patients a day, serving in excess of 1.5M people, and delivering over 6,000 babies, Dr. Maddox received the prestigious “Country Doctor of the Year” award.
You see, where we’re from is not just a place, it’s a point of view, centered around people and doing what’s right. It’s a place holding on to the best parts of a bygone era, one where giving your word is a promise. Caring for others is a human gift without any strings attached. Things are not done for money, merit, or medals; but out of compassion for our neighbors, just because they need it. There are no automated phone banks, no escape clauses, and no golden parachutes—no nonsense. We’re a family-owned, American-built company, born from a helping heritage.

Campton, Kentucky
While the places we come from shape us, it‘s the manner in which we serve others that move us to dream and help re-shape the world, anywhere. That is the gift our father and Campton, Kentucky gave to us. You can say, we’ve taken our father’s calling in opening up a medical practice that served the people of Eastern Kentucky and put a little bit of his kind intentions into every jar we sell, reaching our customers, our “patients,” around the U.S., soothing their everyday aches and pains. Yet, the most important ingredient isn’t on the jar – care.
“The company was so ethical… I would encourage others to try Australian Dream – they have a great culture, outstanding customer service, and they care. If they could get their model out to the folks who are trying to run our country, we’d be much better off.”
– Ron, Customer, Lewes Delaware
